How a Lodge Works
The officer line
A Masonic lodge is led by the Worshipful Master, elected annually and seated in the East. He is supported by the Senior Warden in the West and the Junior Warden in the South — together, the three principal officers.
Most officers progress one chair each year, so a man who joins the line commits to a long apprenticeship in leadership before he ever sits in the East. It is one of the quieter ways Freemasonry makes good men better: by the time you lead, you have spent years learning how.
The Secretary and Treasurer are usually longer-serving members and are the right people to contact about dues, records, and lodge business.
